CATERING · ROYAL, IOWA

Catering from The Great Hall of Royal

Smoked brisket for a wedding of 250, or two casseroles to get a busy family through the week. We are just as happy doing either one.

The Great Hall of Royal caters events on site at our venue in Royal, Iowa, and off site across northwest Iowa, including Spencer, Okoboji, Spirit Lake, Storm Lake, Everly, Sutherland and Sioux Rapids. We cook for weddings, business meetings, Christmas parties, funeral lunches, reunions, graduation parties, harvest meals and take-and-bake meals for home. Every menu is built for you rather than picked off a fixed list, and we work within your budget and around food allergies and dietary restrictions. Full-service catering includes the menu, serving utensils, place settings, condiments, staff to keep everything refreshed, plus setup and cleanup. Drop-off catering is available too. We can often book within a week, and we take dates up to a year out.

WHERE IT IS MADE

Everything comes out of our kitchen at the Great Hall. Serve it here, or we bring it to you.

HOW WE SERVE

Buffet, heavy or light hors d'oeuvres, and drop-off. Indoor or outdoor.

LEAD TIME

Often bookable within a week. Dates can be held up to a year out.

MENUS

Fully customized to your budget, your preferences and any dietary restrictions.

HOMESTYLE FOOD, SEASONED TO PERFECTION

What we are known for

Homemade food that tastes the same every time you order it. A few things people ask for by name.

SIGNATURE

Smoked brisket

One of our signature dishes and one of the most requested items we make. It turns up at Christmas parties, weddings and harvest meals alike. Brisket nachos are a close second.

SIGNATURE

Prime rib

The one to ask about when the meal is the main event. Beef is priced per event, so give us your headcount and we will get you a number.

MOST REQUESTED

Almond bars and coffee cake

Our fresh baked desserts get asked for as often as the entrees do. Almond bars, scotcharoos and coffee cake go fast every time.

CROWD PLEASERS

The bars and the casseroles

Baked potato bar, taco bar, pulled pork, cheesy potatoes, pasta salad and homestyle casseroles. Straightforward food, done well.

None of this is a fixed list. We build every menu around your budget and your preferences, and if there is something you want that we have not made before, we will work out the recipe.

ON SITE AND OFF SITE

You do not have to book the hall to eat our food

Catering is a service in its own right here. Everything is made in our kitchen at the Great Hall. From there it either gets served in our hall, or packed up and brought to you.

Catering at the Great Hall

Weddings, birthday parties, business meetings, reunions, rehearsal dinners, Christmas parties, funeral lunches, anniversary parties, graduation parties and customer appreciation events.

Served buffet style or as heavy or light hors d'oeuvres, indoors or out on the patio. We coordinate with your other vendors and your day-of timeline, and you do not have to decide on catering when you book your date.

What comes with full-service catering

A note on drinks

For events held at the Great Hall, all beverages are purchased on site and the bar is staffed. If there is a specific drink you want offered, alcoholic or not, tell us and we will stock it for your event. Bartending is not part of our off-site catering.

IN THEIR WORDS

What our customers say

BEFORE YOU CALL

Catering questions we get a lot

How far in advance should I book catering?

Earlier is always better, but we are more flexible than most. We can often book within a week if the date is open, and we will hold a catering date up to a year out. We can also cater more than one event in the same day.

What does catering cost?

Our standard buffet pricing is on the catering menu above. Everything else, especially off-site work, is quoted based on what you need. Guest count, menu, service style and staffing all move the number, so the fastest way to a real answer is to tell us about your event.

We build menus to fit budgets, not the other way around.

Can you work around food allergies and dietary restrictions?

Yes. Tell us what we are working with when you reach out and we will build the menu around it.

Do I have to use your catering if I book the venue?

No. Having us cater means one less vendor to line up, since we are already setting up and cleaning up the room, but it is your call. We have a full catering kitchen, and you are welcome to bring in your own food or another caterer.

You also do not have to decide when you book your date. We just like to know which way you are leaning as the day gets closer.

Do you offer tastings?

We do not do formal tastings. What we do instead is talk through the menu with you in detail, and we are glad to try a new recipe or a specific item to make sure it is right for your event.

Do you cater weddings at other venues?

Yes. We cater off site regularly, including weddings at other venues. Setup and serving staff are available on request. The one thing that does not travel is the bar, since bartending is only part of what we do at the Great Hall.

Tell us about your event

Give us the date, the headcount and a rough idea of what you are hoping for. We will come back with a menu and a quote. No pressure, and you do not need to book the hall to hire us.
